LEAPA Workshop: Writing 10-Minute Plays – Some Ideas

This workshop is not about how to write a 10-minute play. That would be presumptuous. It is intended to be a guide to getting started, what to look for, and what to avoid. Like any creative endeavour, there are no hard and fast rules, only guidelines and suggestions. Some are obvious, like don’t bore your audience. But what does that mean in practical terms, and how do you go about not boring your audience? And who is the audience anyway?

In the 2 hours of the workshop, some ideas will be floated, there will be practical writing exercises and also some time for questions and discussion. How to gauge the duration of a play will be touched on, to ensure that what you have written – which can be read in 10 minutes – will not actually run for longer if staged.

The workshop will be led by John Brigg.
